Amazon to build two fulfillment centres in Ontario

Amazon says it plans to open two new fulfillment centres in Hamilton and Ajax, Ont. in 2021. The new facilities will mark Amazon’s 10th fulfillment centre in Ontario and 16 in Canada.

The 855,000 sq ft Hamilton operation will employ more than 1,500 employees who will work alongside Amazon robotics to pick, pack and ship small items to customers.

The 1,000,000 sq ft fulfillment centre in Ajax will employ more than 1,000 people and will pack and ship large customer purchases.

Amazon has also expanded its logistics operations in Canada to support last mile fulfillment with the recent addition of five new delivery stations in Ontario: Stoney Creek, Kitchener, Vaughan, Etobicoke and Scarborough.

The Stoney Creek, Scarborough and Vaughan sites will launch in 2021.

The new delivery stations will create hundreds of permanent, full-time and part-time jobs, in addition to offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own small business delivering Amazon packages, and independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss and create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex.
