Amazon is rolling out biometric technology at some Whole Foods stores in Seattle, which will allow shoppers to pay with a scan of their palm.
The pay-by-palm system is called Amazon One and customers can add a credit card or link to their Amazon account. Amazon says it is a contactless alternative to cash and card payments.
The biometric technology will expand to seven more stores in the area this year.
Amazon first launched the technology in late 2020 and have put it to use in several of its cashier-less stores.
Amazon One still requires items to be scanned and will not impact jobs at Whole Foods. Amazon says it could be used at stadiums, office buildings and retailers but has not announced any deals.
