B.C.’s Meridian Farm Market expands with plans to disrupt grocery delivery

Meridian Farm Market (previously Meridian Meats and Seafood) has expanded its business model and built a new warehouse in South Surrey, B.C.

Over the past year, Meridian has worked with Fresh Local Solutions to renovate a large industrial space in Campbell Heights. The new warehouse will serve as a fresh food market ready for mass delivery across the greater Vancouver area.

Meridian will be taking its signature craft butchery and offering it at scale—the warehouse will feature its own meat butchering and packaging facilities. With this new development, Meridian will be able to offer high-quality cuts of meat to its base customers and expand to restaurants, specialty shops, and private label.

CEO Josh Penner said: “The new warehouse in South Surrey has been a large undertaking for Meridian Farm Market, we’ve never done a project of this size or scale before. We anticipate that in 2-3 years this will become a cornerstone for our family business. I am very excited to be growing the Meridian Family in Campbell Heights. My hope for this project is that we can keep local food and business competitive and accessible in our communities.”

Key takeaways

  • The warehouse is 28,000 square feet
  • The facility is expected to be operational In February 2022
  • 26 new full-time jobs expected to be created in the next 6 months
  • Anticipated to start with a fleet of eight trucks to service the Greater Vancouver area
