BREAKING: Loblaw launches subscription-based delivery pilot

Loblaw Companies Ltd. has announced that it is launching a fee-based subscription pilot program for in-store and online customers.

Called PC Insiders, the digital loyalty-based program will initially target select pc plus loyalty members who are also President’s Choice Financial Mastercard cardholders in Ontario and BC. The initial cost will be $9.99/month or $99 annually. The program will expand in 2018 to subscribers across the country.

“Our customers are looking for new ways to save time and money as they shop both in our stores and on our e-commerce sites,” says Galen G. Weston, chairman and CEO of Loblaw Companies Ltd. “Many Canadians, in particular busy parents, find themselves shopping several of our brands, both online and in person. PC Insiders is our next step in making that whole experience easier and more rewarding.”

This new initiative could be seen to be competing directly with Amazon’s popular Prime program. Last week, Loblaw announced a partnership with Instacart to deliver groceries directly to Canadian homes.
