Calgary Co-op is planning major investments over the next eight years as it expands its retail operations.
A new development just got underway in Mission, where Co-op is building a convenience store, liquor store, gas bar and car wash. An independently developed residential tower is also part of the project.
Other plans include new convenience stores, liquor stores, and grocery stores with gas bars in three Calgary communities, totaling 54,000 sq ft of retail space in addition to office and residential development, says a January 15 article in the Calgary Herald.
Co-op also plans to open a new development in Okotoks, which will include office and retail space and possibly residential space as well. The chain is in talks to buy a seven-acre site in Cochrane and two possible sites in downtown Calgary for a 37,000 sq ft grocery store.
Co-op will relocate its grocery store, liquor store and gas bar/car wash at the Dalhousie Co-op, in addition to adding more retail, office and residential space. More retail, office and residential units will be added at the Brentwood Co-op, with a similar upgrade for Oakridge and a new 44,000 sq ft grocery store at North Hill, Co-op’s oldest location.
Co-op is also investing in upgrades to its existing inner-city stores to support the multi-purpose development being pursued by the city.
