Co-op gives gift cards, donations as “thanks” during pandemic

Co-op’s latest initiative in its support of members, customers and communities across Western Canada is to provide gift cards and donations to help say “thanks” to those helping and needing help during the pandemic.

For the first phase of its support, which began Tuesday, May 5 in the spirit of the international #GivingTuesdayNow movement, it is asking people to tell Co-op about someone they know that has gone above and beyond to help their friends, neighbours or community during the pandemic, who can then receive a $100 Co-op gift card.

“This support is over and above the hundreds of timely and innovative actions local co-ops have already taken and continue to take every day in their respective communities,” says Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) CEO Scott Banda. “With this initial campaign, we just want to say thank you and recognize the individuals that make our communities what they are.”

Co-op plans to give out up to 1,250 gift cards across Western Canada. Nominations will be accepted May 5 to 19 at
