In the wake of the tragic highway crash that killed 16 people, most of them members of the Humboldt Broncos minor hockey team in Saskatchewan, Federated Co-operatives Ltd. has joined a program designed to provide mental health support to players from all the teams in the league.
The program was seeded with a $150,000 donation from Co-op stores in Western Canada, and Federated Co-operatives has stepped up by matching that amount and pledging to match further donations up to $500,000.
“Like so many Canadians, this past weekend, we’ve been looking for any way we can find to help the many players, coaches, billets, families who are all dealing with the physical and emotional devastation caused by the accident,” FCL CEO Scott Banda told CTV News.
The public is being asked to support the program by purchasing “Humboldt Strong” T-shirts, which will be available at Co-op stores in Western Canada.
