Richard Currie

N.B.-born Richard Currie began his career as an engineer and after earning an MBA from Harvard, he joined management consultancy McKinsey & Co. In 1972, he joined Loblaw Cos. Ltd., becoming president in 1976. In 1996, he was appointed president of Loblaw parent company, George Weston Ltd., until stepping down in 2002 after leading both organizations to record growth. A noted philanthropist, Currie is the recipient of many awards, including Member of the Order of Canada, Distinguished Canadian Retailer of the Year, and the Golden Pencil, among others
