William (Bill) M. Dunne
William M. Dunne, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Wm. Dunne & Associates, received a Golden Pencil award in 1983, one of the few broker recipients. He began his career in 1945 when he joined grocery retail business Pickering Farms. In 1958, he moved to brokerage firm Jeffrey Horton, a company he would purchase in 1964 and rename William M. Dunne & Associates. Under his leadership, the food brokerage business became Canada’s most widely recognized, and at one point included subsidiaries in Montreal and Halifax. Throughout his career, he remained active in the industry with the Ontario Food Brokers’ Association, the Ontario Grocery Products Bonspiel Committee and the Variety Club of Ontario. In 1990, he was recognized for his contributions with the Brokers’ Hall of Achievement award. He was also one of the guiding forces behind the Cash for Kids program. Dunne passed away in 1991.
