The UNFI Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in grant funding to improve food systems in more than 40 communities across the United States and Canada. Food access is a key pillar of UNFI’s “Better for All” initiative and, for the third consecutive year, the UNFI Foundation has committed over $1 million to non-profit organizations to help create equitable food access in vulnerable communities.
On September 6, UNFI Canada president Stacey Kravitz visited Foodshare Toronto, Canada’s very first grant recipient at their office to officially present the $25,000 cheque on behalf of UNFI Foundation. Foodshare Toronto is a not-for-profit food justice organization that has been in business for 30 years, and its focus is programs and resources to support communities most affected by poverty and food insecurity. They work upstream above food banks trying to improve access to food.
