Front of Package labelling regulations expected this fall: CPMA

Before the federal election, Health Canada indicated its intention to move forward with Front of Package (FOP) labelling regulations, expected to be released later this fall, according to the CPMA.

While most fresh fruit and vegetable products are exempt from FOP labelling requirements, industry is advised that products that include ingredients beyond fresh fruits and vegetables, such as salad kits, are not exempt and FOP labels will therefore be required on products that exceed the prescribed thresholds for sodium, saturated fat, and/or sugar. The CPMA anticipates that some salad kit products currently on the market in Canada will require FOP labels.
