Industry members came together in Toronto for the 60th Golden Pencil Award to celebrate the achievements of three industry leaders:
Shelley Martin, president and COO of Nestlé Canada:
Martin joined Nestlé Canada in 1990 and served in various roles before being appointed president and CEO of the company in 2013.
Darrell Jones, president of Overwaitea Food Group:
Jones began his 40-plus year career as a retail grocery clerk and was promoted to president of Overwaitea Food Group in 2012. He sits on numerous industry boards, including United Grocers Inc., GS1 Canada, the Food Marketing Institute, and the Retail Council of Canada. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Grocery Business Magazine.
Diane J. Brisebois, president and CEO of Retail Council of Canada:
Brisebois has held her position at the Retail Council since 1995. The University of Alberta School of Retailing recognized her in 2016 for her work in advancing retail as a career in Canada.
The Food Industry Association of Canada first presented the Golden Pencil Award, originally called the Knights of the Golden Pencil Award, in 1957. The award was established by Paul Higgins Sr. to recognize the efforts of buyer and seller in developing and improving the Canadian food industry.
