Pentola d’Oro award recipient Pietro Nenci, Costco Wholesale
The Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario (ICCO) and Unico Primo recognized the industry achievements of two veteran retailers during the 5th edition of the prestigious Pentola d’Oro Awards gala.
Vince Scorniaenchi, executive vice president of Fortinos Ltd. & Fresh Food Development, received the Jan K. Overweel Pentola d’Oro Award, and Pietro Nenci, VP and GMM Eastern Canada Food and Sundries & Corporate Food Canada at Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd., was the recipient of the City of Vaughan Italy-Canada Award.
Scorniaenchi is a second-generation member of the family who began Fortinos Supermarkets. At the age of 12, Vince would accompany his uncle, Fortinos’ founder John Fortino, to the Ontario Food Terminal during the summer. Over the years he learned all aspects of the business and says he “fell in love with it.”
Nenci began his career at the Price Club before it merged with Costco and worked in a variety of departments before moving into grocery in the 1980s. Nenci says he has seen a big change in the industry. “Consumers today make retailers better, because if you’re not good, if you don’t listen, understand and change, then you’ll have a tough time.”
