IGA customers can now bring reusable containers

Starting later this month, shoppers at IGA stores will be able to bring reusable containers with them.

The containers will be restricted to items such as meat, produce and prepared meals, reports CTV Montreal.

In response to concerns that some customers might bring containers that haven’t been properly cleaned and could be carrying pathogens such as E.coli, a company spokesperson responded that employees will be trained to make sure containers have been properly cleaned.

IGA announced a couple of months ago that it would begin phasing out plastic bags in its stores this month, including removing all plastic bags from its stores on the island of Montreal. Some stores are now also offering a reusable drinking cup deposit-return option.
