In Memoriam: Jennifer Grant of Harmony Whole Foods Market, Orangeville, Ont.


Jennifer Grant— the owner of Harmony Whole Foods Market in Orangeville, Ont.—passed away on February 2, 2022.  

The Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) shared the following statement: “A well-respected and much-loved leader in the organic community and member of the CHFA family, she opened Harmony Whole Foods Market in 1978. She believed in the concept of whole foods and ecologically sustainable agricultural practices and understood that food and health were intrinsically related. Under her guidance, the store grew in popularity and size and became the community hub for organic, local, fair-trade and natural products.

“Jennifer shared her passion for organic principles by educating others about sustainable and healthy lifestyle choices. She encouraged many local growers and producers to become certified and was active in the broader organic community serving on the CHFA Board of Directors, CHFA Organic Council, the Organic Trade Association, the Organic Council of Ontario, the Organic Federation of Canada, the Federal Organic Value Roundtable as well as many local community associations. She was instrumental in the early work on Organic Regulations and their appropriate implementation to ensure the continued growth of the Organic Sector. Jennifer was awarded the CHFA Organics Achievement Award in 2003.”
