Loblaw’s Atlantic Superstores on Price Edward Island launched online grocery ordering and pick-up last week.

Customers used the service the same day it was launched at the Superstore in West Royalty, Charlottetown. Registration is free. Once customers log on, they select a pickup time and select their purchases. There’s a $3 or $5 fee for pickup, depending on day and time.

The system allows customers to personalize their purchases, for example by specifying green bananas or steak with marbling.

The online service is supported by 5-8 staff at each store, half of them existing employees and the rest new hires.

Two further P.E.I. Superstore locations launched the service this week, and all Superstores in Atlantic Canada are scheduled to be up and running with it by the end of May.
