Metro expands online grocery delivery service in Quebec

Metro Inc. has extended its online grocery service to Metro Plus Plouffe in Sherbrooke, Que., and surrounding areas. This marks the ninth Metro store in the Eastern Townships offering the service. Metro Inc., which launched its online grocery service in 2016, has already expanded it to the Greater Montreal area, Quebec City and the Outaouais regions.

Metro recently announced that it will accelerate its plan to increase the capacity of its online grocery service. In addition to this ninth store in Quebec, a third store will offer the service in the Toronto area this fall. The company will also evolve its hub store model to offer in-store pick-up service (click & collect) in some 30 Metro stores in Quebec and Ontario in 2021.

“Today, the popularity of eCommerce is at a level we had expected to reach in the next two or three years. Over the past few months, we have been working very hard to meet unprecedented demand, and the addition of a store in Sherbrooke is part of our growth plan,” says Christina Bédard, vice president, ecommerce and digital strategy at Metro. “Customers in the region will certainly appreciate this service, which the Plouffe Group will offer with the same high standards of quality for which they are renowned in the region.”
