Montana’s expands into grocery channel


Montana’s BBQ & Bar restaurant chain has joined a growing number of restaurants offering their products through grocery stores. The Vaughan, ON based brand recently announced that its Texas-style BBQ pork back ribs will become available this fall through grocery stores across Canada in 650g ready-to-eat packs retailing between $12.99 and $14.99. The ribs are sold pre-cooked sous-vide and require 25 minutes to heat in the oven or less on the grill.

“We’re excited to introduce our popular ribs in grocery stores so Canadian BBQ lovers can enjoy the great, signature taste of Montana’s ribs from the convenience of home,” said Chelsea Kellock, director of marketing, Montana’s. Kellock explained that the “sous-vide” cooking technique uses precise temperature control to deliver consistent, restaurant-quality results.

The news is part of a growing trend that is seeing restaurant brands offer more and more products through retail channels as growth in the restaurant channel stagnates. Moving to grocery store distribution enables restaurant chains to expand their distribution, build brand awareness and increase customer loyalty, according to a CityNews report.

St. Hubert, The Keg Steakhouse, McDonald’s, Tim Hortons and Swiss Chalet are among the restaurant brands whose products can now be found on grocery store shelves.
