Okanagan Co-op to open farmer-owned grocery store

A farmer-owned food co-op based in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley plans to open its first farmer-owned farm-to-table grocery store in Kelowna next spring.

The Okanagan Food Hub Co-op has been working for several years now on ways to improve access to locally produced food for Okanagan residents. The co-op believes that the meat and produce growers of the Okanagan can develop an industry to rival the region’s billion-dollar wine industry. They started with a farmer’s market, but are now raising funds to secure a lease on their first store, which they hope will be followed by others in the future.
