Walmart Canada nearly doubles purchase of sustainable Canadian beef

Walmart Canada has committed to purchasing a total of 2.5 million pounds of beef sourced from certified sustainable Canadian farms and ranches, according to standards set by the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB). That’s an additional 1 million pounds of beef, adding to the 1.5M pounds Walmart announced in October 2021.

In May 2021, Walmart Canada became the first retailer in Canada to offer an on-pack CRSB Certified claim in a line of beef products.

One hundred per cent of its beef is sourced in Canada. All Walmart Supercentres in Quebec sell beef products that are 100 per cent locally sourced and processed in Quebec.

The trays for Walmart Canada’s ground beef, including the Your Fresh Market burgers are now 100 per cent recyclable and feature a “How2Recycle” label. These standardized labels communicate recycling instructions to consumers.

“As we continue on our journey to becoming a regenerative company, we’re always looking for opportunities to provide our customers with options that are better for the planet. Increasing our commitment to sourcing beef from certified sustainable Canadian farms and ranches along with adopting fully recyclable packaging for our ground beef are changes we’re really proud of,” explains Rob Pereira, senior director, meat and seafood, Walmart Canada.
