Longo’s celebrates new store opening in Guelph, Ont.

Longo Bros. Fruit Markets continued its expansion this week with the opening of a store in Guelph, Ont. This store is now the furthest west in the chain while its Ajax, Ont., store has extended the chain’s reach well beyond the borders of the greater Toronto area.

Next year further expansion is planned for Stouffville, Ont., and Toronto’s Millennial-dense Liberty Village neighbourhood.

Veteran Longo’s store manager Jason Poloniato leads a team of 160 at the new location, which features an extensive cold beer selection plus a fresh mozzarella station where cheese is hand-stretched twice a week. The Guelph store also marks the inaugural launch of Longo`s Epic Cookie.

“We’re very excited to be opening in the Guelph community. For over 60 years my family has had the pleasure of providing Ontarians with nothing but the best.” says Anthony Longo, president and CEO. “At Longo’s we’ve always held ourselves to a higher standard. And that high standard is the one that all families have for themselves. We’ve always operated under the simple principle that we wouldn’t serve your family anything that we wouldn’t serve our own.”

In 2013, Longo’s entered into a partnership with the local University of Guelph to understand key trends related to food purchases and the implications on business strategies. On hand for the opening were representatives from University of Guelph who accepted the final installment of Longo’s $500,000 investment.
