Made with local has launched its second social enterprise bakery in partnership with Out of the Box Packaging Inc in North York, Ont.
Made with Local is based our of Halifax, N.S., where it opened its first social enterprise bakery in 2014
Made with Local founder and chief executive officer Sheena Russell describes their model as “a bakery that employs folks who have barriers to the mainstream workforce with work and training programs.”
Russell says that their mission is to assist those with various disabilities and bring them into the workforce, and offer their unique and nourishing products to customers with locally sourced ingredients.
Its Nova Scotia partner is called Flower Car Group, which services Atlantic Canada. Out of the Box will be servicing Ontario.
“That’s one thing that’s really cool about growing a purposeful brand, is that the bigger we get the bigger and further impact ripples out into the community, and that’s something that’s pretty special and unique,” adds Russell.
