Manitoba’s innovative Rocket Greens Local gets delivery van

Churchill’s innovative Rocket Greens Local in Manitoba has its first delivery van. The Northern Manitoba farm provides community-wide fresh produce range 365 days a year in a containerized garden as a response to heavy reliance on foods shipped from the South.

Rocket Greens is a container vertical farm, supplied by Growcer and operated by Churchill Northern Studies Centre—an independent non-profit research and education organization that focuses on understanding and sustaining the North—that produces fresh leafy greens for Churchill residents.

According to the Rocket Greens blog, Linda Basler and Jo-Anne Joyce, also known as the #rocketgreensmoms, met for the first time earlier this year. Less than a week later, they drove the 1,300-kilometre adventure from Winnipeg to Churchill to deliver the first brand new vehicle in CNSC’s fleet in over a decade.

The new cargo van, which arrived in Churchill on February 17th, is being used to deliver Rocket Greens produce to the community.
