Metro, Que. first food chain to obtain Fourchette Bleue certification

Metro has become the first food chain in Quebec to obtain the Fourchette bleue certification, an initiative developed by Exploramer that aims to highlight edible seafood products from the St. Lawrence responsibly. Consumers in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region will have better access to a variety of seaweed, seafood and fish at their favourite Metro grocers. Products are identified for customers via in-store signage displaying the blue Fork logo. Like the one in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, the Metro stores in Amqui, Cabano, Trois-Pistoles and Rimouski, Que. have also received Fourchette bleue certification. Eventually, Metro wants to extend the certification to all its stores in Quebec, depending on product availability.

“I am very enthusiastic about the idea of being among the first five Metro stores in Quebec to obtain the Fourchette bleue certification and to offer my customers lesser-known but still local seafood products from the St. Lawrence. I am all the more proud that Metro has become the first major grocery chain to obtain this certification,” said Jean-Pierre Durette, owner of Metro Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Que.
