Metro supports employees with recognition bonuses

Metro Inc. is giving bonuses to all full and part-time employees at stores and distribution centres in Ontario and Québec.

Metro first provided bonuses in December 2020 and in February and May 2021 to all frontline employees. The new bonuses will be given out in February 2022. Employees who work full-time in Metro stores and distribution centres will receive a $300 gift card. Employees who work an average of 15 hours per week or more will receive a $150 gift card and those who work an average of fewer than 15 hours per week will receive a $75 gift card.

“In the context of the current Omicron wave, our customers have relied on us to meet their needs and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months. It is important for us to recognize and thank our frontline colleagues for their hard work and dedication in these unusual circumstances,” says Geneviève Grégoire, communication manager for Metro.

Earlier in January, a CBC story reported that federal NDP critic for economic development had written to the heads of Canada’s biggest supermarkets asking them to restore “pandemic pay,” which was brought in after COVID-19 first struck but was then cancelled.
