Amazon has opened a new 113,000 square foot office in downtown Toronto.
The new office represents an expansion of Amazon’s Toronto Tech Hub, which already hosts a company office with about 800 employees.
The new office will generate approximately 600 more corporate jobs, part of Amazon’s 6000 planned hires in Canada, reports blogTO.
"Amazon's expansion of its Toronto Tech Hub underscores the incredible tech talent we have in our city, and jobs like these allow us to retain and attract high tech talent locally," said Toronto Mayor John Tory in a statement provided by Amazon.
The company says it now has over 10,000 employees across Canada and has invested over $3 billion in the country since 2011, including infrastructure and compensation.
Amazon says it plans to staff the new office with hires in the areas of software development, machine learning, cloud computing, digital advertising, and artificial intelligence.
