Amazon plans to open up to six more of its high-tech cashierless Amazon Go stores this year.
While Amazon has declined to comment, a story in Recode says that “multiple people” familiar with Amazon have mentioned its plans for the new stores.
Some of the new stores will probably open in Amazon’s home town Seattle, where the first Amazon Go store opened in January. Sources say Amazon has identified three possible locations there, and say it is also talking to a land developer in Los Angeles.
Shoppers can scan their phones when they enter the store, pick the items they want and leave the store. Rather than interacting with a cashier, they are automatically charged the correct amount for their purchase.
