Amazon

Amazon’s continuing growth in the online grocery space is forcing competitors to boost their own online strategies, a market analyst says.

In a note to clients, USB analyst Eric Sheridan said that Amazon has created a “tipping point” in the online grocery market, and its acquisition of Whole Foods last year has pushed the concept into the mainstream and forced other grocers to respond.

Walmart, Target and Costco are among the companies that have made recent moves to boost their online presence. Walmart and Costco plan to greatly expand their online offerings this year and Costco, while lagging somewhat, has partnered with Instacart to deliver upwards of 2000 SKUs.
