Amazon has announced plans to build a million sq ft distribution centre just southeast of Ottawa.
The new facility could create more than 600 jobs, Amazon says, while the mayor of Ottawa says it will also create 1500 jobs during construction.
This will be Amazon’s eighth distribution centre in Canada. Unlike the rest, which mostly pack and ship smaller items, this one will be a hub for shipping large items such as furniture, sports equipment and gardening tools.
The site for the new hub is next to the Trans-Canada highway about 14 miles southeast of the Ottawa city centre.
