Canadian food conglomerate Premium Brands has made three seafood-related deals totalling $67.2 million.
A report in undercurrent news says Premium has snapped up U.S. lobster supplier Maine Coast Shellfish and Quebec-based meat, fish, fruit and vegetable distributor Viandex Alimentaire. It is also buying a 50 per cent stake in North Delta Seafood, based in B.C.
Maine Coast Shellfish is the second U.S. lobster firm Premium Brands has acquired; it bought Ready Seafood last year. Maine Coast Shellfish will add furnish downstream distribution for Ready Seafood as it increases production at its Saco, Maine facility. The Viandex acquisition will “foster the exchange and interaction between companies and the different brands that make up Premium Brands,” said Viandex president Pierre Gagne. And the North Delta deal "will further enhance and diversify our sourcing capabilities for these highly sought after products," according to Premium Brands president George Paleologou.
