The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers has named three individuals as the recipients of its Life Member and Spirit of the Independent awards.
Joey Longo of Longo Bros. Fruit Markets in Vaughan, Ontario, is the 2019 recipient of CFIG’s prestigious Life Member Award in the Independent Grocer category.
Michel Manseau, senior vice president and GM consumer business at Kruger Products LP, joins Joey Longo as 2019 recipient of the Life Member Award in the Industry Builder category.
Tom Barlow, formerly CFIG president and CEO, is the 2019 recipient of CFIG’s Spirit of the Independent Award.
Established in 1989, the Life Member Designation honours the lifetime achievements of individuals who have made significant contributions to CFIG, to independent grocers, and to the food industry. This is the highest honour CFIG can bestow.
The Spirit of the Independent Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth of the entrepreneurial spirit of Canadian grocers and have provided inspiration to Canada’s independent grocers. It is not an annual award, and is reserved for individuals who personify what the award stands for.
The recipients will be officially recognized at the Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year awards gala on Wednesday, October 23, at Grocery Innovations Canada 2019 (GIC). GIC is Canada’s primary grocery exposition and conference, taking place at the Toronto Congress Centre, October 22 & 23, 2019.
