The Canadian Health Food Association has issued a statement about the coronavirus and the upcoming CHFA West Conference and Trade Show, which runs February 20-23 in Vancouver, B.C.
Judy Sharpe, director of trade shows and conferences for CHFA, says the organization has been closely monitoring the coronavirus situation.
"It is important to keep in mind that the overall risk is considered to be very low. People in Canada who have contracted Coronavirus include a small circle of travellers or those living with or caring for the traveller. At present, it is believed that the virus is not viable on hard surfaces. That said, practicing all of the behaviours we normally practice to avoid catching a cold or flu are also the best practices to avoid contracting this virus – handwashing, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, avoid touching your face. CHFA has also been reassured by the Vancouver Convention Centre that additional cleaning of hard surfaces will be undertaken and additional hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the facility.
"We are confident that this combination of safeguards, along with self-regulation of persons not feeling well, will ensure a healthy environment for the event. We look forward to welcoming everyone to CHFA West."
