Pumpkin panettone, pistachio pesto, beet-filled gnocchi and Sicilain canoli meal kits. These were just a few of the thousands of innovative food on display at Italy's premier food event, CIBUS.
Held in Parma, Italy, the heartland of Italy's premier agricultural region known for its world-famous products including Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, Modena balsamic vinegar and prosciutto, CIBUS has become the must-attend biennial event for buyers around the world, including some 25 from Canada, representing Costco, Fortinos, Loblaws, Metro and Sobeys.
The event attracted more than 80,000 visitors who came to see the more than 3,100 exhibitors of Italian food.
To help showcase Italian innovation in food, CIBUS judges selected 100 new products reflecting the changing trends in the market, including categories such as "free-from and vegan," "local," and "healthy."
