Newfoundland retail chain Colemans has bought Belbin’s, one of the oldest grocery stores in the province, located on Quidi Vidi Road in St. John’s.
Colemans recently opened its own location in St. John’s, and says it will maintain the family-owned Belbin’s store name, storefront and the business brand. The Belbin family is upbeat about the acquisition, telling a local reporter that it’s like “a marriage of two like-minded businesses.”
Colemans operates 12 food stores plus four furniture and three clothing retail locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. It also operates a wholesale division. The company is a Platinum member of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies.
