Costco’s net sales for the retail month of April rose 13.1 per cent to $10.81 B, from $9.56 B for the same month last year.
Net sales for the 35 weeks of fiscal year 2018 (which ended May 6) rose $92.24 B, 12.2 per cent higher than the $82.24 B reported for the same period last year.
Excluding the impact of gasoline price changes and foreign exchange, comparable sales for the retail month of April were up most strongly in Canada, at 14 per cent, versus 10.2 per cent for the US and 11.2 per cent for other international sales. For the 35 weeks of FY 2018, Canada was up 10.1 per cent, ahead of 8.9 per cent for the US but behind the 13.3 per cent posted by other international operations.
E-commerce sales rose 43.1 per cent year over year in April, and 34.9 per cent for the 35 weeks of FY 2018.
Net sales in March totaled $12.92 B, up 10.9 per cent from $11.65 B last year. For the thirty-one weeks of FY 2018 (which ended April 8), Costco reported net sales of $81.43 B, an increase of 11.8 percent from $72.82 B last year.
Once the impact of gasoline price changes and foreign exchange is added to the equation, sales figures overall are lower and Canada’s relative performance is particularly affected.
