Costco Wholesale Canada opened two warehouse locations in Gloucester, Ont., and Calgary, Alta., August 27 and 28 respectively and both mark significant milestones. The Gloucester, Ont. store is Canada’s second largest location at 161,000 sq ft. The Calgary warehouse is the first Costco in Canada to be on First Nation land.
The Gloucester store includes a variety of specialty departments, including an onsite bakery, fresh meat, rotisserie chicken section and optical centre, with an onsite optometrist. It also has a large food court, five tire centre bays and a gas station with 24 pumps, as well as a self-checkout section with six stations and 760 parking spots.
The Calgary Costco store, a 150,000 sq ft warehouse, is the first anchor tenant in The Shops at Buffalo Run, a retail centre in the Tsuut’ina Nation.
In a news release, David Skinner, senior vice president of Costco Wholesale Canada for Western Canada, said “with the opening of our seventh warehouse in Calgary, including the surrounding area, we can provide southwest Calgary with a more convenient shopping experience.”
