Costco Wholesale is partnering with Zest Labs to improve its fresh supply chain, the same company that is also suing Walmart for $2 billion claiming that Walmart’s Eden technology was stolen from the Silicon Valley business.
Costco will be using Zest Labs’ Zest Fresh technology to manage and forecast the freshness of the retailer’s produce.
In the earlier lawsuit against Walmart, Zest Labs and its parent company Ecoark Holdings claim Eden “looks, sounds and functions” like its own Zest Fresh technology. In a company press release about the Walmart lawsuit, Peter Mehring, Zest Labs CEO state “we were surprised and concerned by how similar Walmart’s Eden description was to Zest Fresh. Like most innovative companies, we believe strongly in the need to protect our intellectual property, recognizing the importance of preserving the value for our shareholders and customers.”
