Despite being turned down by the French government, Couche-Tard CEO Brian Hannasch says he would like to restart acquisition discussions with Carrefour, according to news reports.

Couche-Tard abandoned its $25-billion offer for the grocery chain after the French government deemed the acquisition inadmissible.

However, even if the possibility of the acquisition is dim, Hannasch said in a conference call with analysts and reporters that he would like to restart talks and that the company is still interested in grocery and other food retail and could expand with Dollarama-type stores, fast food and airport shops, according news reports in the Journal de Montréal and the Toronto Star.
