Two major grocery stores are reportedly vying for prominence in Coquitlam, B.C. according to local media outlet, Tricity News.
Loblaw Companies Ltd. is putting $2.5 million into a T & T Supermarket at 1085 Woolridge St., according to building permit figure, and Jim Pattison-owned PriceSmart Foods is also re-entering the Tri-Cities grocery market, as reported by the local news site.
Said Catherine Thomas, vice president of communications, Loblaw Companies Limited to Grocery Business: “To meet local demand, we’re pleased to be opening a second T&T location in Coquitlam. The new location will be over 39,000 square feet, housing all of T&T’s favourite foods customers have come to expect from us, including an expansive produce offering, and prepared foods like sushi, the noodle bar, dim sum, BBQ, Asian street food, and in-house bakery. This store will better serve south Coquitlam and the SFU area. Due to its proximity to SFU, we expect to see increased interest in e-commerce and delivery from this location. Overall, the total investment is in the millions of dollars and offers a number of additional conveniences such as covered parking and proximity to the highway. We believe customers will continue to choose T&T for its fresh experience, unique offerings, friendly service.”
The new PriceSmart location is in the former Save-On-Foods store at Coquitlam's Pinetree Village (2991 Lougheed Hwy).
