Ottawa-based grocery chain Farm Boy has teamed up with two local companies to develop a retail app that could ultimately help customers find items on special, send them purchase suggestions and enable cashier-free checkout.
omNovos is creating the back-end infrastructure for the app, while Iversoft is developing the user interface.
“It’s new territory for us,” Farm Boy CEO Jeff York told Ottawa Business Journal. “We wanted to partner with local companies that … are excited about working with us and exploring this space with us. We want to find out what’s going to work and then … roll it out fast.”
Farm Boy operates 15 stores in the Ottawa area and almost a dozen more in other parts of Ontario.
