The government of Canada is investing $12.8 million in 135 food processing companies in Quebec to strengthen the food supply chain and improve worker safety.
The minister of agriculture and agri-food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced support to the Quebec Food Processing Council.
The funding will help increase measures to keep employees safe and increase capacity, by making adjustments for social distancing, purchasing PPE, increasing cleaning and improving air circulation.
The improvements will support the food self-sufficiency in Quebec. The Government of Canada continues to work with food processors to protect employees and improve food supply chain.
“Food businesses across Quebec have stepped up in the face of all the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through these emergency investments to 135 food processors across the province, the Government of Canada is improving worker safety and strengthening the food self-sufficiency in Quebec,” says Bibeau.
