Halifax, N.S. is home to a new independent South Asian grocery store, BIGS, an acronym that stands for Brothers Indian Grocery Store.
According to The Chronicle Herald, the business was formed by Rupinder Kaur and Amit Puggal, who moved from India to Halifax to fulfill their dreams to live in Canada for a better future, Puggal told the newspaper in an online story. The business was originally started as an online business before venturing into the brick and mortar.
The store sells a wide range of South Asian grocery items such as spices and spice mixes, pulses, lentils, beans, rice, flours, cookies, snacks, ready-to-eat curries, cooking pastes and instant cooking mixes, as well as frozen products.
