Jim Gogan spent his 35-year career with Empire Company Limited, retiring as president and CEO in 1998. He began as an accountant for the company in the early 1960s and worked his way through the company ranks, soon becoming CFO, a position he held until 1974, when he was appointed executive vice president. In 1994, he was named president and CEO of Empire. Upon his retirement, he continued to serve on Empire’s board, as well as other corporations. He was also a founding director of Nova Scotia Business Inc. and was involved in the development of the Aberdeen Hospital Foundation and its endowment fund, a Nova Scotia organization he contributed to for more than 35 years.
