Merlen Kropf, the founder of L & M stores, has passed away at the age of 88. Kropf was the cherished husband and partner of Doreen (Schulz) for over 61 years. 

Kropf founded L&M Food Markets in 1965 in a former Steinburg’s Grocery location in Fergus, Ont. Over 56 years the family business grew to include 10 grocery locations and two golf courses. Kropf was said by his family to have been honoured to receive the CFIG 1999 Life Member Award, as well as several local Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce awards.
