FreshBay, an indoor agri-food business that recently launched its growing facilities in Alberta, has received its first order from Berrymobile Fruit Distribution, a Western Canada soft distribution company to produce 15 million pounds of strawberries per year.

FreshBay’s facility, a deep geothermal powered agricultural facility near Hinton, Alta., has more than 800,000sq ft of greenhouse space to grow fresh produce.

FreshBay says its facility is a “first of its kind project” that uses heat from geothermal wells and cogeneration to directly heat, power and supplement CO2 enriched air for greenhouses outfitted with Affinor Growers Inc. turnkey vertical farming technology
