Loblaw has launched the Instacart home delivery service at its Queen’s Quay store in downtown Toronto.
Grocery Business spoke with an Instacart representative at the store and was told that this is the first Loblaw branded store in Canada to get the service.
Loblaw banner Real Canadian Superstore launched Instacart in Winnipeg earlier this month. The company said that the Winnipeg introduction brings national Instacart service coverage to more than half of Canadian households.
Loblaw announced its partnership with Instacart one year ago. The company has some 2500 locations across the country and says it plans to roll out the grocery delivery service to its Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore and T&T locations, although it did not specify how many locations would get the service.
Customers visit instacart.ca or download the Instacart app, pick from a local store's online inventory of as many as 30,000 products, and add their selections to a virtual shopping cart. and choose a delivery window, which can be as narrow as one hour or up to five days later. An Instacart shopper accepts the order on his/her smartphone, uses the Instacart shopper app to guide them through shopping, and then delivers the order within the selected time window.
For orders of $35 or more the delivery fee is $3.99. Instacart Express membership enables free same-day delivery service on orders of $35 or more. membership is $9.99 a month or $99 a year.
