Loblaw opens first urban Real Canadian Superstore in downtown Calgary

In the midst of the pandemic, Loblaw Companies Limited has opened its first prototype urban Real Canadian Superstore in downtown Calgary.

Originally, the location in Calgary's East Village was going to be a Loblaws, but late last year, the company changed the plan and announced the site would be the location of its "urban format" Real Canadian Superstore.

The approximate 80,000 sq ft location is the first of its kind, according to a Retail Insider story. The new location, part of a mixed-use project in the East Village, includes Joe Fresh and Shoppers Drug Mart.

According to the Retail Insider story, Loblaw has implemented measures to help reduce contact and control traffic and will open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with a dedicated hour for the most vulnerable from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
