Loblaw has announced a trial of a new service that uses the company’s PC Optimum loyalty program to generate targeted advertising and reward customers for viewing ads on Internet sites.
Traditionally PC Optimum delivers product offers and ads to customers through Loblaw web channels and emails, based on their previous purchases within the company's store network. This new approach will deliver tailored ads to members on behalf of trusted consumer-brand advertisers as they browse the web or use social media – in places where ads are already displayed.
Customers will be advised up front of plans to serve them online ads on behalf of trusted advertisers, the company says. They will also receive PC Optimum points when they are included in these campaigns.
The ads will include a visible identifying mark or logo associated with PC Optimum. Customers will have the choice to opt out of receiving this type of advertising.
