Loblaw says its suppliers must focus on demand forecasting to work successfully with the company.

Loblaw’s chief administrative officer Rob Wiebe made the comments at the 2019 Supply Chain Symposium. The event took place in Mississauga, ON on April 10 and was sponsored by Food & Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC).

“Our best relationships are when suppliers hire specifically for this role,” Wiebe said. “Suppliers need to focus on the data feeds we give them.”

Loblaw focuses a lot of attention on what is selling through ecommerce or in-store to provide visibility on what is available in-store.

“It’s disingenuous not to have a product on the shelf.”

Loblaw Companies Ltd. separates the supply chain for Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart (except for trucking). But there is one central logistics group, and Wiebe expects this group to continue to drive synergies among the banners. He says he is proud of their ecommerce channel for driving almost $1 billion in annual sales.
