Lorne Campbell, a veteran of Thrifty Foods, has purchased The Old Farm Market in Duncan, B.C., a 29-year-old fresh produce market serving the Cowichan Valley area.

As the son of the late Alex Campbell Sr., co-founder of Thrifty Foods, Lorne Campbell grew up in the grocery business. Central Saanich-based Thrifty Foods grew to 20 stores throughout Vancouver Island and B.C.'s Lower Mainland before it was sold to Sobeys Inc. in 2007.

The Old Farm Market is a popular spot for those travelling up and down Vancouver Island, according to a report by the Lake Cowichan Gazette. Campbell has appointed Sam Schwabe, a former Thrifty Foods store manager and Red Barn Market partner, as store manager.

“I am excited to return to the grocery business,” Campbell told the Gazette. “The Old Farm Market in Duncan represented a great opportunity to build upon an already successful company. I plan to work with our employees and suppliers and use the experience acquired through my 30 years with Thrifty Foods to grow that success even further.”
